An Italian Canadian. Although he became famous as a pop-jazz, soul and rock vocalist at the very beginning he wanted to be a jazz drummer. In the late 60s and early 70s young Gino as a high-school student became engrossed in jazz drums masters such as Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich. However, in 1973 Vannelli issued his first debut album "Crazy life" as a vocalist. A year later Steve Wonder invited him to appear together in a very popular at that time in the USA tv show called "Soul station". Since then his world career flourished. In the 70s he wrote and recorded many hits but he is particularly noted for his 2 songs "I just wanna stop" and "Living Inside Myself" for which he received a Grammy nomination. He won two Juno awards and his classic version of the song "Parole per Mio Padre" of 2003 "stole heart" of Pope John Paul II, who invited Vannelli to a special recital to Vatican.
